ABA Legal Education Section Continues Working on Updated Law School Approval Criteria

This special committee of the ABA Section met most recently July 23-24 in New York City to further develop its new draft approval criteria. Of most direct interest to those of us pushing for implementation of the Summit Recommendations, the committee seems to be moving toward more "performance based", skills-based criteria as envisioned by Recommendations 1 through 4.

New Jersey Launches Mandatory CLE Amid Distance Learning Issues

New Jersey's new mandatory CLE rule goes into effect with a unique limit on accreditation of distance learning programs. According to NJ Board on Continuing Legal Education Wendy Weiss, "

For live credit to be offered, the speaker must be in the same room as the participants. The only exception will be for attendees viewing the program from an overflow room in the same location as the live event (participants could walk into the live room with the speaker to interact and ask questions as any attendee in the same room with the speaker)."
